🌙 Respite Care Services
Relief for Caregivers. Continuity for Loved Ones.
At First Generation Residential Living, we recognize the dedication of family members and unpaid caregivers who provide ongoing care and support to their loved ones. Our Respite Care Services are designed to offer these caregivers a much-needed break—while ensuring their loved one continues to receive safe, compassionate, and consistent care in a comfortable environment.
🌟 What is Respite Care?
Respite Care is a short-term service designed to support individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are unable to care for themselves. It provides temporary relief to unpaid primary caregivers or guardians, allowing them time to rest, attend to personal matters, or simply recharge—without disrupting the continuity of care for their loved one.
Respite Care is available through both the Community Integration and Habilitation (CIH) Waiver and the Family Support (FS) Waiver.
🧩 What Does Respite Care Include?
Respite services are highly flexible and can be adapted to the individual’s daily needs. They may include:
🛁 Assistance with Daily Living Skills
Support with grooming, bathing, dressing, toileting, and hygiene.🍽️ Feeding and Meal Preparation
Preparing and serving meals, assistance with feeding, dietary support.💊 Medication Administration
Administering prescribed medications under trained staff supervision.🗺️ Community Access and Activities
Supporting individuals in engaging with their community through social or recreational outings.🔒 Supervision and Safety Monitoring
Ensuring the individual is safe, supported, and supervised during the respite period.🤝 Individual or Group Respite
Services may be provided one-on-one or in small group settings, depending on the needs and environment.
🧍 Who Can Provide Respite?
To ensure quality and compliance, Respite Care may not be provided by a primary caregiver or legal guardian. Instead, services must be delivered by trained Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) or respite workers approved by First Generation Residential Living and state waiver requirements.
🏠 Where Services Are Provided
Respite Care can be delivered in a variety of settings, based on what is most comfortable and appropriate for the individual and their support plan:
In the individual’s own home
In the respite caregiver’s home
At a DDR-approved day habilitation facility
In a respite home or non-private residential setting
In a camp or temporary group setting, if approved
